McDonough resident Maxyne Bursky never met a dog she didn’t like.

“I’ve always favored English bulldogs, but I love the very large dogs. I’ve had a Great Dane and a St. Bernard,” said Mrs. Bursky.

She has a passion for rescued purebreds, who are the focus of her recently self-published book, Good Dogs with Bad Names.

“I realized there were a lot of people who were unaware of breed rescue,” said Mrs. Bursky.

She has fostered numerous dogs and owned more than 20, many of whom are featured in the book, along with a story. She now owns two, Cappy, a Boston Terrier and P.T., an English American Bulldog.

“Every dog that I’ve ever had always came with some kind of story,” said Mrs. Bursky.

In today’s economy, animal rescues and shelters are full of dogs people can no longer afford to care for, she said.

She is donating 50 percent of the book’s profits to the more than 30 rescue organizations listed in the book.

“The biggest thing I would like to accomplish with this book is that it would be so popular with rescue organizations as well as dog lovers that I would be able to take a humongous chunk of money and distribute it among the breed rescues,” said Mrs. Bursky.
