Since 2004, the Hands of Hope Clinic in Henry County has been providing cost-efficient care to uninsured patients who might otherwise resort to using an emergency room at much greater expense.
The organization operated out of McDonough Presbyterian Church until July 2007, when it moved onto the campus of Henry Medical Center.
The hospital, one of its partners, provides the organization with a space as well as conducts their diagnostic services.
Being a nonprofit, Interim Executive Director Ruth Rucker said the organization operates on a year to year basis; they do not have a certain source of funding. Because of that they mostly rely on corporate partners and grant funding to operate.
However, this year they are looking to execute a more personal initiative mainly to reach out to the community of Henry County. Hands of Hope Clinic is aiming to get 1,000 citizens who will step up and become its partners with a financial contribution in 2010, which will help maintain its 2011 budget.
“With the economy the way it is right now we’re gearing up for next year being sure that we have operating funds for 2011,” said Ms. Rucker. “There are more agencies in the application pool for fewer funds, so we’re just looking ahead and trying to be proactive.”
While this fund raising drive will help secure some operating funds for next year, Ms. Rucker also hopes it will help more county residents realize the clinic is in the community and to help them understand what necessary services they provide.
“We need help from others in the community to do whatever they can do,” she said. “They can make whatever kind of contribution they can make within their means to give so that we can help people who don’t have anywhere to turn for their medical care.”
Citizens can visit their website at www.handsofhopeclinic.org to make a credit/debit contribution, or mail a check to Hands of Hope Clinic, 1010 Hospital Dr., Building B, Stockbridge Ga. 30281.
Ms. Rucker added they are also willing to take volunteers for those who are not able to give monetarily.
